CLIFF'S NOTES VERSION
It started at Ogilvy & Mather Chicago in 1998. I was cold so, I moved to Ogilvy NY in 1999. It was a bit warmer. It was also home. I won the duties for Miller Lite as a copywriter, produced over 100 radio spots with Will Ferrell (a small fish at the time), created the winning TV campaign and won “Campaign of the Year” for Ogilvy Worldwide.
I left in 2006 and flew out to LA to freelance at Deutsch. Six months later, I was still there, with an apartment and a CA license. Apparently, I moved there.
And so it began. Since then, I've made early content videos about a blob and a bird at 72 and Sunny, brought life back to Toyota Avalon at Saatchi, helped launch Apple Music, gone viral with Taco Bell, launched movies, won pitches for Carls Jr, Clorox, Hankook, Miller, Hautelook, Samsung and Maaco.
What I've learned thus far.
Working at many places has given me wide range of experience. But one thing always comes up. I work on a lot of pitches. They are messy. But, when they're all bundled up and it's all over. It's very satisfying. I'm a new business specialist.
Most assignments need something sold right away. I’m a good guy to call. I solve puzzles fast. And this business is all that. Cracking the idea is always satisfying.
We are all strategists. As consumers we know how hard it is to get someone's attention. It starts with a good brief.
Presenting is a skill everyone should have. I did the acting thing, still do from time to time. Auditioning is a great test - Something worth getting good at.
Integrated work has become a much bigger focus. “How do we do this in a fresh way that doesn’t use traditional media.” It’s every brief. It's the starting point. Just like anything we do, it starts with an idea. I'd love to talk about some of them with you. Liike Mercedes’ “Jon Hamm in a glove box," “AntiNorma” for Pepsi’s Izze, Infiniti’s “Paparazzi," Apple’s “Monkey," Taco Bell’s “Respect the Fire” (many more) Land Rover’s “Epic Drive”,“7 Psychopaths’” “Kill Your Friend’s Dog App," and more.
I have been lucky to work on all kinds of brands. From Beer, Credit Cards, Cars (all of them), Banks, Restaurants, QSR, Telecom, Athletic Sneakers, Video Games, Movie Campaigns, Chips, Packaged Goods, Soap, Carrots and Everything In-Between.

I got into a mentoring program based out of the University of Denver. It focuses on the LGBT youth. My latest started as an intern at Droga, got a job there, killed it and now moved to 72 and Sunny. I couldn’t be prouder. I look forward to continuing to help these students into successful careers.

...There are traits I look for in judging senior creative leadership and Jeff Mullen has them all.
He possesses a creativity that is infectious and inspiring to anyone who is fortunate enough to work with him.
He has a fantastic rapport with clients who come to trust him and see him as a partner.
And most importantly; in a pitch, in a pinch, in a jam, in all manner of madness, you know Jeff will come through - he always has and he always does - with a smile . For an agency owner, that is priceless.

Jeff is one of my favorite writers to work with. He’s a pro. Hand over a brief and get dazzled in return. When I was in LA at Chiat, Jeff was my first call.
-Karl Dunn/ECD Saatchi LA
Jeff and I were partners at Ogilvy NY. He is funny, smart, weird, creative and loved. Now we call on him to help us out at BSSP for all the same reasons. He’s a pro whether he’s leading a team or doing the heavy thinking. He’s added value wherever he is.

I look forward to meeting you soon and thank you for visiting.
